AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college readiness system for elementary through postsecondary that is designed to increase schoolwide learning and performance. The AVID College Readiness System (ACRS) accelerates student learning, uses research based methods of effective instruction, provides meaningful and motivational professional learning, and acts as a catalyst for systemic reform and change.

Westwood High School is extremely proud to be an AVID provider since 2001.  AVID exists in over 4700 schools across the nation.

Students in the AVID program are required to take an AVID elective class (each year), as well as Advanced Placement and other rigorous courses.  The AVID curriculum prepares students for college by emphasizing writing, inquiry, collaboration, reading, note-taking, rigor, study skills, and college/career/motivational activities.

Over 300 students are currently enrolled in Westwood's AVID program.  If you have additional questions about AVID please contact one of our Westwood AVID coordinators.
